Kara Johnson

Kara is a cocktail sipping, stationary-loving KC native on a mission to live a (mostly) local lifestyle. Her journey through this transition is documented on both her blog (keepingupwiththecity.com) and Instagram (@keepingupwiththecity). When she’s not out exploring the city, she is at home reading, watching a horror movie or spending time with her dog, Charley and pet chickens, Sonny and Cher.

To get to know Kara a little better, we asked her a few questions.

If you could create your dream meal in KC, what would you get your appetizer, entree and  dessert from?

Appetizer: Caesar Salad from Lidia’s. I’m a sucker for a well crafted Caesar.

Entree: Duck Confit from Rockhill Grille. It was the first time I realized I really like duck.

Dessert: Something from Manifesto. I prefer a liquid dessert. And the bartenders there could recommend anything and I’d probably be in love.

Where is your favorite place to shop in KC?

It’s a three-way tie between Workspacery, Whiskey + Bone and Wildcraft. It depends on what I really feel like I need more of but don’t really need at the time.

Where would you most love to live in KC?

Either the Westside or Brookside. The Westside has so much character and I love the Pre-fab aesthetic of a lot of the homes. Brookside, however has that small town feel while still being close enough to all the KC action.
