BYO Waffle at The Waffle Bar KC

I recently heard from a friend about this new dessert spot that was putting everything on a waffle and knew I had to check them out. Located at the corner of Central Street & Ward Parkway at the beautiful Country Club Plaza sits a quaint little shop that quietly is making a “sweet” name for themselves. With “The Diet Ends Here” exclaimed in soft frosting on the window-front, you know something good is in store: The Waffle Bar KC.

Inspired by trendy eateries in California & Texas, the owners Rayan Awad and Marwa Noaman wanted to bring their love of waffles to Kansas City in a way that hadn’t been done before. Bubble Waffles are the staple and– My Oh My–are they good! As a first timer I was tempted by the many toppings available, but tried to be as conservative as possible: vanilla bean ice cream (Sourced from Sylas & Maddy’s in Olathe), Fruity Pebbles, peanut butter chips, chocolate sprinkles, and Nutella drizzle all wrapped into a freshly made bubble waffle. Let me tell ya…this took me to my Happy Place! The flavors combined with the balance of hot and cold ingredients was outstanding.

The shop itself is pretty neat: bright chairs for seating and chalkboard walls that make great selfie backgrounds, you get the vibe of stepping into a trendy spot that may be one of Kansas City's newest and best-kept secrets. With a recent opening in September 2017, The Waffle Bar deems themselves a pop-up shop. However, something tells me they may be in KC for the long run; and with a menu that is ever-changing, I’m excited to see what they drum up next. One thing is for sure… their Waffle Pops are on my radar! More specifically, the super-popular “Strawberry Crunch” recipe which features: cookie butter icing, graham crackers, strawberry jelly, and white chocolate.
