Best of: Patio Drinking

It’s patio season in Kansas City, and restaurants and bars are opening their doors to everyone’s favorite spots to chill. With so many to choose from, it can get a little overwhelming come happy hour. Fear not: we’ve doled out the superlatives so you can pick your patio with your crew, beverage craving or budget in mind. Happy summer!

Best for snazzy cocktails: SoT

SoT

SoT

Think palomas piled high with delicious grapefruit foam, and smoky mezcal drinks complete with torched cinnamon sticks. The patio is swanky, but comfortable, featuring luscious green turf, faux boxwood plants and posh white couches with silver sidetables.

Best for partying with a group:  Brick House

Formerly Barrel 31, Brick House reopened with new branding but the same great deals. Later happy hour, bocce ball, giant Jenga and more make this patio a great spot to hang with a big group for a day of drinking or a long night of fun.

Best for brunch: Farmhouse

Farm to table eats get even better under the shade of an oak tree on the Farmhouse patio. This City Market brunch favorite is even more delightful in the summer when you can enjoy your mimosas al fresco.

Best for appetizers: Gram & Dun

You won’t find boring appetizers on the beloved Gram & Dun patio. If the cushy lounge chairs, beautiful flowers and blazing fire pits weren’t enough to call you there in the first place, then how about some pig wings or flash-fried shishito peppers? Bring a crew and order a few rounds of apps.

Best for a pizza party: Il Lazzarone

The patio over is fired up for the season, and who ever said pizza parties went out of style? Upgrade to the adult version and get your friends together for Neapolitan pies, negronis and definitely the Nutella pizza for dessert.

Best for brews: McCoys

McCoy’s long-awaited patio renovations are complete, and it’s a better spot than ever to sip on their rotating selection of McCoy’s beers. Kick off a night in Westport with your buddies at one of their bigger tables, or stick around for a dinner date at a table for two.

Best tapas: Extra Virgin

With practically half of the menu half-price during happy hour, Extra Virgin slides under the radar as one of the best patio deals in town. Their sangria is the strongest and most authentic you'll find, but let's be real– we're all just here for the churros.

Best girl’s night: Jax

Every Thursday night all cocktails, wines by the glass, etc. are half-off for girls night out. Round up your ladies and treat yourself to some oysters and a glass or two of bubbles.

Best low-key patio: Sundry

Grab a charcuterie board and fill up a bubbly house-made soda (the flavors get crazier and more delicious every day, we swear) and relax on Sundry’s adjoining patio, worry-free. Casual vibes make this a great pit stop during the work day, and plenty of on-tap beers make it a lovely place to pass a weekend afternoon.

Best for wine: Amigoni Urban Winery

The patio isn't huge, but the wine is fantastic. Plus, the industrial West Bottoms location makes for an interesting change in scenery. Grab your closest friends and settle in for a wine tasting that will turn all your preconceptions about Missouri wine upside down.

Best up North: Trezo Mare

Sip an Aperol spritzer and transport yourself to Italy with killer handmade pastas and the best tiramisu in town. Pro tip: snag a table around sunset and be treated to a view of the moon rising over the clock tower in the distance.

Best out South: Rm 39 Leawood

Rm 39’s second location out in Leawood has a major leg up on the original 39th street spot when it comes to patio season. Plenty of seating means you won’t have trouble snagging a table outside, so you can worry about more important things: like what to order on the ever-changing seasonal menu.

Best in Lawrence: RND Corner Grille

With a brand-spankin’-new cocktail menu and deals that extend beyond happy hour (hellooo, rosé Tuesday and $5 cocktail Thursday), RND is more than worth the scenic drive out to Lawrence.
