Biz Babe: An Opportunity for Movers, Shakers, Entrepreneurs and Makers
The female entrepreneur community in Kansas City is growing, and quickly. Thus, the annual Biz Babe Symposium was born as the brain child of Abbi Miller- and this year's event is quickly approaching on May 12! The gathering is for business-minded women seeking community, support, new ideas, and clear vision. It is an open, welcoming environment to all, from CEOs to makers in a variety of industries. I recently had the pleasure of chatting with owner, creator, and Biz Babe el numero uno, Abbi Miller, to discuss this upcoming event.
Biz Babe was conceived from Abbi’s own need for community as an entrepreneur and Business Coach. Entrepreneurship is often synonymous with lots of solo work, and as Abbi states, “It can be lonely working for yourself. Having that community not only when struggling but celebrating victories. When you get together with other Biz Babes you can learn and inspire each other so much.”
Kansas City has a big start-up scene– most people fall into it following their passion or in an attempt to fill a need in the market, piecing together their business acumen ad hoc. Abbi expressed, “It’s my intention that people leave the event with new business best friends. New tactile information. New business strategies. Twenty books they want to read. Podcasts they’ve got lined up. Their cups are full. They leave inspired.”
In comparison to last year’s, which was more workbook based, Biz Babe 4.0 will be more about discussion and utilizing new kinds of interaction. The goal is to be more social and have a wider breadth of information, including a “Hot Seat Hour.” This provides babes the opportunity to ask questions to the community, and get group feedback. The concept yields a sort of “collective business coaching” where you can focus on the problems challenging your business.
There will be an extensive line up of snacks, services, SWAG, and concerts. As Abbi put it, “People are going to get their effing monies worth!” with awesome activities like hair braiding with Jamie Miller from The Hair Parlour and pop-up shops, delicious eats and drinks from the likes of Unbakery, Cappellos, Simple Sciene Juices, Westside Local and many more. The workshop will be broken up with a guided meditation, giveaways, and even some live musical performances by by Calvin Arsenia and Jessica Paige.
A portion of all proceeds go to the non-profit MOCSA, and attendees who sign up in time to score a "swag" ticket will receive a goodie bag valued well over the price of admission. Tickets are $95, but we have a treat for our MIKC Explore readers: 20% off!
