There’s lots to offer in Strawberry Hill: eats, drinks, coffee, and plenty of kind neighbors who have made this historic area one of KC’s most beloved spots. Take a trip to the Hill, and see why!

Breit’s Stein and Deli | 412 N 5th St, Kansas City, KS 66101

This locally owned delicatessen is a great place for a sandwich and cold beer with some buddies after work. Tucked away on one of Strawberry Hill’s neighborhood corners and operating since 2003, they are known for their Reuben sandwich. This tender, crispy sandwich pairs nicely with Guinness. My friends know this as the spot with the coldest beer! Make sure you know the owner Bob’s name, because if you’ve been there once, he’ll probably know yours!

Chicago’s | 534 Central Ave, Kansas City, KS 66101

If you are feeling like you need a beer to relax after enjoying a BBQ sandwich from Slap’s, all you have to do is cross the street. Located off of S 6th Street, Chicago's is a fantastic dive bar with great deals. The locals of Strawberry Hill reveal that the back dining room boasts free food on occasion (if you have any room left after perusing Strawberry Hill’s marvelous restaurants). Another major plus is the friendly wait staff, who offer suggestions if you are a first-timer.

Sarah’s on the Hill | 612 N 5th St, Kansas City, KS 66101

Sarah’s on the Hill might be my new favorite pizza spot in Kansas City. Sister shop to Breit's Stein and Deli, they are widely known for their “Meats” pizza and “Meatball” sandwich. When I say sister shop, I mean it literally and figuratively, as it is just up the street and the owner Sarah hails from the same Breitenstein family. The five cheese pizza with cauliflower crust uniquely topped with a dollop of ricotta is my new comfort food. It's the perfect place to go for a signature pizza, Italian sub sandwiches, or salads topped with their delicious homemade ranch dressing. This cozy shop has cool artwork and a relaxed vibe. My friendly waitress even said her favorite tee shirt is from Made in KC!

Slap’s BBQ | 553 Central Ave, Kansas City, KS 66101
Located off of S Tennessee St and Central Ave, this down-home BBQ spot has it all. Joe and Mike Pearce are the brother duo who own this establishment. They have a deep passion for BBQ with which they have competed in several competitions. After one bite of their pulled pork sandwich, you're hooked. This counter-serve joint smokes meat and serves it daily. Their sweet sauce compliments the meat so well, no wonder it is award-winning. Their selection of sides is out of this world. Make sure you arrive earlier than planned because the line is out the door. As cheesy as this sounds, it truly SLAPS!

Splitlog Coffee | 548 Central Ave, Kansas City, KS 66101

Searching for a spacious coffee shop with a skyline view? Look no further because Splitlog Coffee Co. has you covered. I recommend ordering their cold brew (which is steeped for 16 hours), it's sweet, smooth, and rich. Another suggestion is an iced vanilla latte, I had this while sitting on their rooftop. Nothing like sipping coffee and admiring Kansas City’s tremendous skyline.
