Mindy Hargesheimer
Mindy is an avid explorer and adventurist, and when she can't travel the globe, she travels her way around Kansas City, crossing each and every noteworthy spot off her bucket list. With a mantra in life of "Every Day is On My Bucket List," there isn't a day that goes by that she doesn't think about how she can pursue something new and fulfilling in her Kansas City surroundings and document it through her love of photography and writing. Wife and mom of two amazing daughters, Mindy journeys alone, as well as with her family, experiencing Kansas City inside and out; everything from food, coffee, and cocktails, to festivals, museums, architecture, and more. She believes Kansas City is a Midwestern hidden gem that she loves to tour and learn the stories of how our local makers launched their vision. To get to know Mindy a little better, we asked her a few questions.
What's your favorite coffee shop (and drink)?
I love vanilla lattes, but my best practice is to try a new coffee shop weekly and try whatever their specialty is...I'm an adventurist in all senses. It's a toss up between Messenger Coffee and Thou Mayest, but I don't even feel right singling any one of our outstanding coffee shops out of the equation; I love them all!!
If you could live in any Kansas City neighborhood, which one would you choose?
Right now I would absolutely choose the Westside! Upon my first visit, I fell in love with the varying architecture, the snug corner of restaurants and shops, and the hillside perspective and proximity to downtown KC is perfect for accessing so many of my favorite KC spots!
Where's your favorite weekend getaway?
Lawrence! First of all, I am a Jayhawk. Secondly, Lawrence was already full of fantastic bars, restaurants, and rolling hill campus views, but flash forward to 2018 and it has progressed wildly to host an incredible amount of fantastic spots that make downtown Lawrence unbeatable!
You have a Sunday to yourself. How do you spend it?
Hands down, exploring a new neighborhood, taking an obscene number of pix, and talking to the shop staff about their stories! I'd be navigating my way through every single West Bottoms shop and alleyway soaking up the industrial urban vibe on a warm, sunny day with my husband and two daughters in tow!
If you could take one Kansas City restaurant/bakery/cafe to a deserted island, which one would you choose?
Impossible to choose; how dare you. ;-)
