Weekend Series: Westside

Our weekend series focuses on bringing you a cluster of activities in a corner of KC that you can knock out in just a few hours of your Saturday or Sunday.

Westside is a Kansas City favorite for a reason: darling brownstones and brick cottages, local shops to browse and plenty of good eats.

Kick off your morning with brunch at Blue Bird Bistro, an organic eatery with a big emphasis on local. The cozy home-turned-restaurant has beautiful details like mosaic tiled flooring, Victorian wood finishings and even a bathtub and fireplace on the second floor. Cozy up and peruse the menu– an ever rotating host of ingredients from local farmers, with heavily Midwestern influenced plates like the grass-fed beef Meatloaf Benedict, the Sweet Potato and Granola pancakes or any of their omelettes made fresh with Campo Lindo eggs.

Walk it off afterwards with a stroll up and down the neighboring streets– the homes range from modern and minimalist to old giants undergoing careful renovation. When you loop back around to Summit St., pop in to Westside Storey for locally made KC t-shirts, prints and vintage memorabilia.

Round off the day with a cocktail at Westside Local- on the patio at one of the shared picnic tables, if the weather is nice. Much like their neighbors, seasonal and local rules here on the libations menu. Try their most recent or simply enjoy a glass of sparkling rosé before you get on you merry way.
