Menu of the Month: RND Corner Grille
Resident culinary photographer and food-tasting extraordinaire Anna Petrow kicks off her Menu of the Month series. The series will highlight notable local dishes with seasonal flavors, walking you through a tasty journey with tips on appetizer, entrée and dessert orders– with photo evidence, of course.
While the start of a new year might signal diet season to some, it signals celebration to me– you made it through a long year of hard work, a busy season of holiday obligations and the bitter Midwest cold to boot, so why not treat yourself to a well earned meal with a glass of wine or two? When it's celebration I'm searching for, I look no further than steak– and when I'm looking for steak, I look no further than RND Corner Grille in Lawrence:
Appetizer
Fig season is heaven to me, and the Fig & Ricotta Salad is the loveliest start to the meal. Peppery arugula goes perfectly with fresh figs, salty prosciutto and delicate ricotta cheese. The crushed Marcona almonds on top provide the perfect amount of crunch.
Entrée
RND Corner Grille makes a perfect steak– that reputation holds true. What really keeps me coming back, though, is the insightful pairings like the shitake mushrooms and marsala glazed farro on the side. The earthiness of the mushrooms and farro compliments the quality of the beef in a way that standard steakhouse potatoes never could, making the filet that much more decadent.
Dessert
Candied bacon with Nutella dip. I mean hello. Do I even need to make a case here? The bacon is roasted to perfection with brown sugar and some crushed pecans for a little extra crunch. Then you dip them into warm Nutella. Then you die of happiness.
I hope you enjoyed my first Menu of the Month! I'll be eating– *ahem,* "researching"– all month to bring you more delicious eats next time. Until then, I hope you can make it out to RND Corner Grille in Lawrence to try some of these excellent dishes. Bon appetit!
