Caffeinated Drinks and Vegan Treats: Pirate's Bone

I can’t see this coming as much of a surprise to anyone who knows me or follows along with my KC adventures, but goodness do I love exploring new coffee shops! Although this one has been around for a little over three years now, I’ve only gone a handful of times, and never ordered food. It wasn’t until recently that a friend of mine told me I was crazy for not trying any of their menu yet, so on a random weekday off I made the quest to Pirate’s Bone!

Even without being a "regular", the staff has always been incredibly helpful & friendly. This time was absolutely no different. I ordered myself a Mexican cold brew, (with the almond milk, a recommendation from the staff), and the avocado bagel sandwich. Guys, I was blown away. I know that sounds silly, considering we have such an awesome array of breakfast sandwiches in this city, but this is hands down a new favorite! The combination of fresh tomato/avocado, with the house pickled cabbage & seasonings brings a whole new spin to your bagel of choice. Even though I just ate this 5 hours ago, I wish I had a time machine to take me back & eat it again; that’s how good it was.

I’m also such a fan of the mission of this shop. Not only do they create incredible vegan options,  it’s the only local, alternative, Latino, immigrant-owned specialty drink shop in town. Owner Zaid Consuegra wants to create an experience for his customers, where creativity, conversations & community are celebrated. It’s shops like this that make me want to come back time & time again, not just for the menu, but for the feeling you have when you’re there.
