Amidst the skyline of downtown Kansas City lies ones of the city’s most iconic buildings that is now home to Hotel Kansas City.

The rich history behind this building is known to many Kansas Citians, dating back to 1882 when it was The Kansas City Club, a premiere social club for men only. The likes of Dwight D. Eisenhower, Harry S. Truman, and Tom Pendergast would walk the halls socializing with other notable business professionals in the area. It would be almost 100 years before women were admitted to this prestigious club that helped establish Kansas City’s economic landscape.

The 15 stories of restaurants, meeting spaces, gyms, pools, private hotel rooms and more of yesteryear, are still embodied today in the newly refurbished building that hosts guests and events from near and far. The redesigned spaces are a nod to the building’s and city’s rich past, while adding a modern flare that reflects the lifestyle and culture of today.

Within the halls of Hotel Kansas City, you’ll find luxurious guest rooms; a collection of over 20,000 sq. ft. of event space, including 6,000 sq. ft. rooftop with the best views of the city; and three spots to wine and dine during your stay. Plus, while at Hotel Kansas City, you’ll be a stone’s throw away from the booming social scene of downtown KC, making it the perfect spot for an out-of-town or staycation destination.

Said best by the hotel itself, “Built on a culture of community, Hotel Kansas City is a platform that celebrates local musicians, distillers, entrepreneurs, and performers alike.”

Not to be missed is the hotel’s signature restaurant, The Town Company, located on the ground floor of the building just past the hotel lobby. This culinary concept is redefining the Midwestern Table under executive chef John Leach with a rotating menu that celebrates local farmers, ranchers, and unique purveyors. Each menu item is creatively imagined, carefully created, and masterfully executed. With each bite you can taste the white oak burning hearth that is at the heart of each plate, such as the carrot dip made from carrots roasted for over 12 hours in the hearth. Snag a spot at the bar to watch the flames glow throughout your meal and enjoy the view of the hustle & bustle of the kitchen.

With each plate of culinary perfection, you will experience the flavors of rustic cuisine with a modern elevation, which matches the ambiance of the restaurant aesthetic. The rich colors, tan leather, and tasteful décor will have you feeling like you are fine dining while simultaneously right at home. The atmosphere is cozy, warm, and inviting: the perfect setting for a night on the town.

But The Town Company does not begin and end with the incredible food menu: it is enhanced by the one-of-a-kind wine list, curated by General Manager Kelsey Alt, and specialty cocktails manifested by Director of Restaurants, Bars, and Events, Scott Tipton. The libations will pair perfectly with each course of the meal– and if you’re a whiskey lover, you can indulge in their exclusive J. Rieger Co. Kansas City Club bourbon.

No visit to The Town Company could be complete without dessert, flawlessly executed by executive pastry chef Helen Jo Leach. The creativity and expertise behind each dessert offering will leave you wanting more. The chocolate steamed bun, paired with Messenger coffee ice cream, is a favorite amongst diners.

From the inviting atmosphere to the delicious menu, your experience is certain to be a memorable one, made all the more perfect if you’re indulging in a staycation. What’s better than wandering straight up to your room after an excellent meal to take in skyline views?
