Tucked away in the Independence Square is a little known spot coffee geeks absolutely love. Common House Coffee started it’s story in the beginning stages of the pandemic as nothing more than a co-working space. As the months went by and pandemic restrictions eased a bit, co-owners and brothers-in-law Josh Bella and Noah Usry decided to make the jump into their dream of running a coffee cart.

Currently you can enjoy Thou Mayest’s finest roasts on the espresso side, and a coffee fan favorite roaster, Onyx, for pour overs. For the fans of added flavor in your coffee, Pink Alchemy syrups are available– making Common House the only local coffee shop in KC to carry them.

Recently partnering with local baking company Fox & Bull, you can also find a wide array of delectable pastries, biscuits, and other baked goods.

Coffee On Wheels

Need coffee for your next event, wedding, or party? Common House has got you covered with a cart serving all the coffee shop classics. Completely decked out with a mini La Marzocco espresso machine on the cart, you won’t be losing out on any of the coffee shop quality, either.

Saturday is for The Bloc

On most Saturdays you can stop by Common House for The Bloc. Bloc is defined as “a combination of groups sharing a common purpose”. In practice, vendors come in and sell handmade goods and delicious baked treats, amongst other things.

Plans are in the works to make it a more common occurrence (pun intended) with a permanent daily marketplace. The goal is to have the daily market up and running this fall.

Something for the Creatives

Nestled inside Common House is a 450 sq/ft natural light photography and video studio. Available for rent, you can come by and make some magic in it! Both of the owners are photographers in their own right, and wanted to have a studio of their own that they could share with other creatives. Co-working members also get access to it as a part of their membership plan.

Common House stands out on the Indepence Square as one of the more modern businesses. Still keeping true to its roots as a co-working space while producing specialty coffee, it is a destination for coffee lovers, creatives, and remote workers while still being family friendly and accessible to the masses.

Stop by sometime. I recommend the pour overs, vanilla lattes, and homemade pop-tarts. Take it easy for a bit while you’re there and enjoy the baristas’ immaculate playlists.

Current hours are, 8-2 Monday-Saturday. For more information check out commonhousekc.com or their Instagram @commonhousekc
