You don’t have to look far in Kansas City to find great walls and murals for photography. Explore the 10 spots below to snag fresh photos for your portfolio or Instagram stories.

Truman Rd and Oak St

Glowing in green, the Kansas City Star building can be seen far and wide. Most of the building’s colorful facade is elevated off the ground, so it’s hard to work it into photos. However, on the north side of the building, the iconic patina look meets the ground creating the perfect backdrop for all your photo needs.

6304 Brookside Blvd

Pride month may be over, but Brookside continues the celebration with a rainbow flag painted on a warm, off-white wall. You’ll find this painting on the west side of the Starbucks building. In addition to June, I’d argue that July - May is an excellent time to show your pride in front of this great photo op. If you’re hungry after striking a pose, Jalapenos, Sayachi, and The Brooksider are in the same building.

3021 Cherry St

The exterior of Comfort Felt & Foam is a charming blend of red, turquoise, and black textures you can play around with for the perfect shot. You’re just a half block from the Filling Station (north) and The Fix (south), so you’ll find a great spot to grab a snack and review your new photos in either direction.

31st St and Oak St

Not only is Brick House a great bunch spot, it’s also the home to the perfect KC mural to grab a photo with friends. The silver pops against the red and creates a fun shimmer that you don’t find on many painted walls. After brunch, swing by The Black Pantry or Made in KC to support your favorite KC artisans.

16th St and Oak St

Looking for a way to show off KC and your love for our boys in blue? This spirited backdrop lets the world know you were “raised royal.” The Pairing is right down the street, so make sure to grab some wine and cheese before you head home for the perfect patio night.

16th St and Locust St

Perfectly sandblasted to expose the original brick, the walls of what looks like an old firehouse are basically begging to be photographed. The iron window covers add a fun visual element to make your photos more interesting.

17th St and Locust St

If you’ve spent any time on the Parlor patio, there’s a good chance you’ve seen this colorful staple on Locust. Stop by here after a class at Dance Fit Flow or on your way to cocktails at Mean Mule. With a mural this big, the photo options are endless simply by moving a few feet to the right or left.

19th St and Locust St

With a name like Artistry KC, you know this apartment community will be visually pleasing. Between the pool and apartment building, a walkway with a colorful, intergalactic vibe awaits your camera. The wide sidewalk is a great place for a stroll with the dog - who wouldn’t want to stop and snap a few pics of their favorite furry friend? While you’re there, hop into the leasing office. You may decide to call the Crossroads home.

1005 W. 43rd St

Perhaps more timely than ever, Ruth Bader Ginsberg watches from above on an otherwise white brick wall. She’s always provided inspiration through her legal accomplishments, and this artwork serves as a friendly reminder not to let her work be forgotten. Grab a sweet treat at Donutology across the parking lot and ponder how we can all make her proud.

63rd St and Oak St

The old world vibe of archways and fountains transports this wall to another time. This mural, on the side of J’adore Home & Garden, is a perfect photo op after brunch at Heirloom Bakery. While you’re in the area, check out the other shops along Oak. Homesong Market and Shopgirls are ideal spots to pop in for a gift.
