How to Beat the Post-Holiday Sunday Scaries with a Staycation at Loews

A solo staycation– or even better, one with your pup– can revive your spirits during the holidays!

The only thing worse than a case of the Sunday Scaries is one after a long holiday. With plenty more of those ahead, if you’re looking for a local place to get away, nowhere else is more perfect than the Loews Kansas City Hotel.

Here’s how to beat the post-holiday Sunday Scaries with a staycation at Loews:

  1. Pack your bag—and your dog

For pet owners, traveling can be overwhelming and stressful. At Loews, from the moment you check in under art and light installations and cross through the lobby’s ornate metalwork already complimented by decorations for the Christmas season,  your pets are more than welcome and you’ll forget how cold it is outside. And if you still need to grab something to warm up, the in-house coffee shop Red Wheat is steps away spilling warm aromas across the main floor.

Loews takes pet-friendly to another level. Every pet receives a Loews Loves Pets gift bag full of treats, toys, and those items even the most prepared of us forget. (Sorry food and water bowls.) If you need extra bedding or leashes, even pet-sitting and walking services, Loews loves to make sure you have everything you need to make your pet feel right at home.

With incredible views in every room, be sure to let your little one have their Lion King moment at the window and gaze over everything the light touches.

2. Get salty

Whether you decide to spend your early evening at the first-class fitness center or taking a swim in the indoor saltwater lap pool, you can get in a good sweat with spa-like amenities. The gym is on the third floor and complete with a kickboxing bag and Peloton bikes overlooking downtown. As the sun sets and glows off of neighboring buildings, it makes for the perfect pre-week workout.

3. Fill up at The Stilwell

For dinner, put on something fun and take the elevator down to The Stilwell. Honoring Kansas City’s rich railroad history, the restaurant and bar are named after the Silwell Oyster Car which first delivered oysters to City Market in the early 1800s. Today, The Stilwel’s kitchen is known for their Classic Double Cheeseburger and Stilwell BBQ Platter complete with smothered pork ribs, smoked chicken, and my personal favorite, Kansas City burnt ends. Other items of note; Pan Seared Salmon with pistou (IYKYK) and Carrot Gnocchi. Yes, Carrot Gnocchi.

Even their lighter dishes are packed full of flavor. The Crab Cake is served with charred lemon to bring out its smokey flavor and topped with a sweet jicama pepper slaw and spicy remoulade for dipping. The soup of the day, a cozy butternut squash, was intentionally served with warm rye bread and buttery toasted croutons.

The perfect pairings to taking down your Sunday Scaries can be found thanks to their Free Spirited by Loews program, full of non-alcoholic and low ABV options. Earthbound is characterized by a cranberry balsamic shrub that sparks a sweet aroma. The Last Harvest, a true mocktail, features blackberry, lavender, and lemon so fresh you’ll almost forget about those morning meetings.

As will the staff who offer to take care of nearly any need. While my dog is on a prescription food diet, Stilwell chefs are ready to prepare any kind of meal for your pup for in-room service.

4. Relax and sleep sweet, plush mattress dreams

After you’ve had your fill, I suggest you order a treat, like the Dirty Chai Cheesecake, to take up to your room for a little spa night. In the closet, you’ll find plush bathrobes.

Need extra shower gel or a bath bomb? Text or call the front desk for any and all needs.

For Millennials like me, there might be nothing more indulgent than snuggling with your pup in an ultra-comfortable hotel bed nostalgically flipping through cable channels. Though, smart TVs and fast WiFi make it easy to stream yourself to sleep.

5. Get after the day

With checkout not until 11 AM, you have plenty of time to start your morning, sneak in one more workout while the sun rises, and grab a coffee. If you work from home, you can lean into your morning from the comfort of your room.

When it ultimately is time to return your keys, say au revoir to the smiling concierge and know your newfound getaway is only a booking away.
