Kohinoor: A Downtown Diamond for Drinks

Hola hola, my KC peeps! Winter boredom got you down? I am about to give you a nuevo and fantastic option for a night on the town. If you’re looking for a new and beautiful upscale bar downtown, Kohinoor (koh-ee-noor) is your spot. The soft opening was this fall, and they’re quickly becoming known for unique cocktails in an intimate, moody setting.
A couple of weeks ago I went with some of my fellow board of directors from the Hispanic chamber of commerce and we just had a fantastical evening. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner of this large valuable diamond (the definition of Kohinoor), 27 year old Jasmine Rios. Yes, ladies and gentlemen this luxe bar is a latina owned business.
Nothing makes me happier and more proud than when I meet young Latinas and Latinos following their dreams and making them come to fruition. This certainly wasn’t something that happened overnight. Jassy (only her close friends call her that, wink), has been in the service industry for 10 years. She’s been a hostess, waitress, bartendar, etc…so, she’s no stranger to hard work. She has always had the inclination and ambition to own her own business in this industry. As many of you know, its not the easiest industry. Rios was also inspired by her friends and family members who are also business owners in the hospitality industry.
Jasmine hired Manny Gomez (one of the owners of Jade Jaguar…check out my write up that spot here) to create Kohinoor’s signature cocktails. So you know the cocktails are going to be “chef’s kiss”. The winter menu is in full launch mode, and you won’t want to miss it.
Kohi is also a family affair. Jasmine’s sister, Astrid, is the Guest Experience Coordinator. She also created their very own made-in-house Tajin. She makes the best Micheladas and homemade aqua frescas for those of you who prefer alcohol free drinks. Which makes Astrid an integral part of Kohi’s immediate success. As far as small bites, Rios is working on that and hopes to have an abbreviated menu by Spring!
Kohinoor in all its splendor is located on the first floor of the Pickwick Plaza Apartments, 933 Mcgee St Kansas City MO. So for you lucky residents, you get a discount! Mizz Rios does have a “dress to impress” business casual dress code. She wants every one of her guests to experience that downtown luxe vibe.
Kohinoor is open six days a week, Monday thru Wednesday 5pm till midnight, Thursday thru Saturday 5pmtill 1:30 am. There will be live music every Tuesday, and on Thursday through Saturday will be a rotation of KC’s best DJs. Before I forget, be sure to follow Kohinoor’s instagram account to stay in the know.
