6 Places in KC to Get a Great Glass of Wine
Boozy KC’s Allie Kyser knows a good glass of wine when she sips one – and luckily for us, she’s rounded up 6 spots to sit down, relax, and sip an excellent pour.
Our Daily Nada | 304 Delaware St
This adorable cafe bookstore doesn't mess around when it comes to wine. Though their wine list is small, it is well curated, and they have an offering for everyone! Grab a glass (or two) and peruse the books. Find yourself a page-turner, and cozy up on their gorgeous emerald velvet couch. Be sure to go for Wine Wednesday and get 15% off your glass!
Le Fou Frog | 400 E 5th St
Le Fou Frog is a Kansas City staple! Nowhere else in KC will you find a spot that transports you right to Paris with rich, decadent aromas and a stellar wine list. The majority of the list consists of old world selections - it IS a French restaurant, after all! With a warm and welcoming staff, they definitely know how to make you feel at home in their intimate space– and with beautiful wines and happy hour pours starting at just $5, you simply can't go wrong. Á votre santé!
Ca Va | 4149 Pennsylvania Ave
If you don't know, then you should. Ca Va is the cutest little champagne bar with a staff so well versed in their wines, yet so friendly and inviting, that you'll feel like it's your hometown dive. Which, with an amazing sparkling wine selection that's sure to please, it should be. Bubbles not your thing? Not to worry, they have a great still wine selection (including one of the most excellent natural wine programs in the city) and a stunning cocktail menu. You will easily want to make this a regular spot in your rotation– in particular, on Thursdays, Ca Va’s live jazz night.
Tavernonna | 106 W 12th St
As far as Italian restaurants go, Tavernonna is a beautiful breath of fresh air. The space is clean, modern and open, and it will absolutely put you in the mood for a lovely glass of wine. This spot has a wonderful international wine list, but as it's an Italian joint, I'd recommend a glass of Italy's finest. Be sure to check out the Allegrini Palazzo della Torre (tons of herb and fruit. Thyme! Full bodied but fresh and vibrant) and the Pieropan Soave "Calvarino" (crisp, bright minerality, and refreshing but without a heavy bite), both from Veneto.
Made in KC | 1114 Baltimore Ave (Downtown) & 306 W 47th St (Plaza)
Nowhere else in town can you get your hands on exclusively local pours quite like this. Made in KC’s wine list is true to its name: wines hail from local favorites like Amigoni Winery, Vox Vineyards, Somerset Ridge Winery and more. Best of all, pours are just $4 during happy hour every night from 4-7 pm, with extra deals on Wednesday (30% off of bottles– you’re welcome), because as we all know– Wednesdays are for wine!
Affare | 1911 Main St
Absolutely one of my all time favorite spots in KC, Affare was sure to make this list. The space isn't what you'd expect for a German restaurant, but it's everything you could want. The modern interior, inventive menu and interesting wine selection should leave you more than satisfied at anr hour. But the key to happy hour here is variety: they pour glasses of red, white, rose AND sparkling for just $5 every day from 4 to 6 pm. Of course, the food is incredible and you would be doing yourself a disservice by not ordering something. Don't miss this one, it's a showstopper!
