The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is a Kansas City cultural icon. Look anywhere throughout the community and you’ll see a shuttlecock adorning car bumpers, billboards, t-shirts and coffee mugs. We’ve rallied around the museum and made it one of our city’s postcard images.

As one of the anchors and most recognizable establishments in town, it’s important that we help support the museum when we have the chance. Fortunately, the Young Friends of Art throw one of the biggest, most anticipated parties of the year and it’s only a few weeks away. Allow me to introduce you to Party Arty.

On February 1st, Party Arty attendees will be enveloped by the mysterious, ever-shifting sands of Ancient Egypt. Centered around the museum’s current exhibit on Queen Nefertari: Eternal Egypt, the party is certainly fit for a queen – or at least a queen’s afterlife.

Included in this year’s party are an Egyptian-inspired, multi-sensory experience from Quixotic; immersive performances from the Kansas City Ballet; three specialty cocktails provided by Tom’s Town; a full range of beer from Boulevard, along with multiple open bars offering wine and other cocktails all night long; delicious bites from local eateries and the museum’s restaurant; and multiple photo ops for you and your friends to grab those perfect, professional photos or selfies. More than that, it’s the perfect opportunity to get dressed up and enjoy an incredible night out.

But Party Arty is more than just a night of food, drinks, entertainment and making memories with old friends and new; this event is your chance to help fund the museum’s education efforts, community outreach initiatives, allow free access to all visitors year round and keep the lights on. All of which are very important things.

While the night may not be eternal (since the party goes from 8pm to midnight), you can expect timeless memories of power, beauty and mystery. Member tickets are $125 and non-members are $155, both of which can be purchased here. And if you need inspiration for what to wear, check out the curated Pinterest board made by the Nelson-Atkins here.

Like sand in the wind, don’t let Party Arty pass you by!
