Let’s face it - after a year like no other, all anyone could want is to escape, to be with the people most important to us and leave our worries behind. The Made in KC team agrees that right now, Kansas City is in great need for a place to relax and unwind.

What better place to kick back and take it easy than the beach?

Located in Leawood’s Park Place, Outta the Blue is a breezy beach café serving local coffee, vegan breakfast sandwiches, cold-pressed juices, natural wines, and classic tropical cocktails. Featuring full-sized indoor palm trees trucked in from California, four large surf boards, and rope swings for those who can’t sit still, Outta the Blue is intended to be a relaxing getaway for locals in the Kansas City Metropolitan area.

Part café, part bar, Outta the Blue is meant for conversation and socialization, catering towards friends catching up and groups getting together instead of the typical “study” crowd. Thus, the café anticipates the majority of customers enjoying their food and drinks on site as opposed to take away orders. More than just a place to indulge in hand-crafted beverages, Outta the Blue is an experience for people to be present with one another.

The coffee menu will be familiar to customers who frequent any of Made in KC’s other cafés. The most notable difference is the use of Marcell Coffee for the espresso-based drinks and drip coffee, as Made in KC features Messenger Coffee at their Downtown and Trolley locations, and Post Coffee at both the Country Club Plaza and Lee’s Summit Marketplaces.

The bar menu is where things really take a dive towards that ocean theme. While the menu includes the usual suspects in the beer and cocktail categories (think Corona, Pacifico, Kona, and Red Stripe; Mai Tais, Pina Coladas, and Pain Killers), the bar is largely built around the wine menu run by Adam Pfeifer. The list includes natural wines, organic wines, orange (skin-contact) wines, canned wines, kegged wines, effervescent wines, and more. It’s fun, funky, and forward, but also approachable. You’re encouraged to try something new, and if you love it - take a bottle home at retail price!
