Growing up as KC Chiefs fans, embracing “Red” takes on a whole new meaning now that our tight-end is dating award-winning singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift. After years of exploring the City’s cuisine scene, my brothers and I thought it would be fun to dish out some date spots for Travis to take Taylor in the new year.
While Kansas City may not boast the towering skyline of New York City, it undeniably packs a flavorful punch on the culinary front. From James Beard award winners to international culinary owners and experts, the list below will surely have Taylor hooked.

1. HAPPY GILLIS CAFE + HANGOUT
Discover an exceptional spot in the Columbus Park neighborhood of Kansas City, also known as Little Italy. Operated by the dynamic duo, Josh and Abbey-Jo, this establishment boasts an intriguing narrative. We recommend going on a bye-week Sunday morning. Our top recommendation is the timeless egg sandwich paired with a yogurt granola bowl. Noteworthy selections from the menu feature the sausage B&G, extra points for the gravy! Taylor make sure to pack your “Cardigan.”
2. CAFE PROVENCE
Undoubtedly, our favorite dining spot nestled within the quaint shops of Prairie Village. Owned by the Quillic family, renowned for their hospitality and readiness to share family stories while guiding your culinary journey, this establishment is truly special. The interior exudes both warmth and sophistication, creating an immersive French-inspired experience. With a menu showcasing the finest ingredients and seasonal offerings, each dish is a field goal of flavor. For a well-rounded experience, we recommend starting with La Salade de Chèvre Chaud, then the pan-seared Amish chicken, and concluding with the chocolate cake. Need more proof? Patrons unanimously rave about the velvety hummus and falafel - we agree! The café's ambiance is ideal for a swift lunch during a leisurely drive around Kansas City. The familiar visage of Taylor's friend, Bella Hadid, even graces the walls, adding a touch of star-studded charm to the experience.
5. THE PEANUT ON MAIN
Whispers suggest that Taylor's culinary affection leans towards chicken, and if that's the case, this is the go-to destination for exceptional chicken wings! Renowned as a hotspot to catch Travis and the Chiefs in action on the big screen, this local pub exudes an authentic grit, making it a must-visit for anyone in Kansas City.

Concluding a date night with ice cream is a choice that ensures you won't find yourself saying "I should've said no." My siblings and I are fans of this extraordinary locale, captivated not only by its delectable offerings but also by the unique narrative that birthed it. Owners Alex and Jess, driven by their passion for ice cream, made a bold move during the pandemic by relocating to KC and establishing what has quickly become the city's premier ice cream destination. Boasting an array of flavors, the experience is elevated when opting for multiple scoops or sharing a cone. Don’t let your ice cream melt while you take advantage of the perfect photo-op in front of this aesthetically pleasing building!
7. EARL’S PREMIER
Seafood in the Midwest might not sound ‘All too well,’ but let me assure you that a visit to this hidden gem will transport you straight to Rhode Island, conjuring images of a beachfront breeze as if you were sitting near the Atlantic Coast. Amidst the charming vibes, we'd highly recommend elevating your experience by indulging in their Fancy Seafood Tower No. 2 – a culinary masterpiece!

8. The Restaurant at 1900
Lastly, we propose reaching out to Patrick and Brittany for a double date at The Restaurant at “1989”…oops 1900. We picture both groups arriving in “Style,” enjoying each other's company in the upscale atmosphere. It's a meeting that might make you wonder if you've stepped into the “Midnight’s” Era.
Please appreciate that the restaurants listed are merely a small selection among the many exceptional dining establishments in Kansas City. While these recommendations are noteworthy, they represent only a fraction of the diverse culinary landscape this city has to offer!
