Drinking Coffee in Kansas City: Bisou

We’re reviving a series that helped launch Explore– we take our coffee seriously, over here!

I like to visit a new (to me) coffee shop as often as I can when going on a weekly coffee outing with my friend Kevin. This week, we had the advantage of finding European-style coffee shop Bisou, a cozy slice of heaven just off Southwest Boulevard in Westside.

The front of the shop is so inviting, with vibrant flowers in window planters and multiple outdoor seating options. There was ample street parking in the vicinity to serve the 10am crowd on a gorgeous Wednesday morning.

As you walk into the space, you are immediately greeted by a row of stools on your right, and a beautifully organized bookshelf wall. It seems to act as a portal to the clean, gorgeous, expertly crafted and curated space that is Bisou.

The counter fully exposes the stock for caffeinated beverages, but in a way that almost brings inner peace because of its organization and the attention to detail paid. The abundance of Cholula at the condiment station made me perk up a bit in my seat.

Along the wall to my right, a few tables. My friend and I sat chatting for quite some time, and we watched couples and groups filter in and out. I was able to capture the art in a rare moment of silence, with no one around.

Some of the art on the walls can be classified as “naughty,” however tasteful. If you pay attention to your surroundings, you’ll find some cheeky photos. If you order a to-go beverage, you may get a peek at the art as well.

There is, truly, a great view from every seat in this space. However, at the center of the shop is a booth table option that gets a view of both rooms, and it is a really cozy nook to hide out in for a while. The windows provide incredible light for working or reading. This is a spot I could see myself spending a lot of time in.
