Neighborhood Guide: Mission

Mission is a must-tour foodie hotspot tucked away in a lush, charming historic Kansas neighborhood!

Take a stroll down Johnson Drive, and you’ll notice a plethora of unique, local spots to grab a bite or quench your thirst. Any day is great to visit, but don’t miss Thursday evenings (June - August) when the street comes alive with the Mission Market. Local makers and food trucks line the market while live music fills the summer air. Here’s a sampling of some other must-visit spots in Mission.

Fluffy Fresh | 5729 Johnson Drive

Skip the snooze button if you want the chance at the fluffiest and freshest donuts around. This long-time shop lives up to its name with its signature glazed donuts, cake donuts, long johns, cinnamon twists, and more. They close the shop after they sell out each morning, so hit the ATM (it’s cash only!) and get in line early.

Sandhills Brewing | 5612 Johnson Drive

An inviting patio and bird-themed beers await at Sandhills Brewing in Mission - the second location for the Hutchinson-based Brewery. Try the Junco if you’re into juicy, hazy IPAs or the Wren if you’re looking for an easy-drinking tropical pale ale. Whatever you choose, fly on in for a good time.

Snack Shack on Johnson Drive | 6018 Johnson Drive

When a burger craving hits, get the real deal by swinging into Snack Shack. A well-seasoned flattop and quality beef ensures every burger is top notch. But don’t stop with the burger - It would be a mistake not to add the 50/50 (half onion rings/half fries) and a malt to wash it all down.

Thai Orchid | 6504 Martway Street

Tucked away off the main drag, Thai Orchid has been serving classic Thai favorites for more than 30 years. Pad Khee Mao and Panaeng Curry are favorites, but don’t leave without a cup of Tom Kha - a creamy coconut milk soup oozing with fresh Thai herbs.
