Drinking Coffee in Kansas City: Two Sugars - Beacon Hill
We’ve revived the series that helped launch Explore–
we take our coffee seriously, over here!

Two Sugars in Beacon Hill is an excellent expansion of the Two Sugars brand, which made its initial appearance – and continues at its mainstay – in Westport on Westport Road. Pull up to the glass-finished building on Troost Avenue and 25th Street to what is currently ample street parking and several pockets with lots in them.
The coffee shop itself has doors that face Troost, so don’t be deceived by the north-facing doors to your right as you approach the shop. The boxed planters outside will indicate when you are there, as will the sign and the bright lights that shine from inside.
Since they took over from similar previous tenants – another coffee shop, Vested Coffee, occupied this space – the setup is very similar to what it once was. Inside, you will find a beautiful, clean airstream that the baristas operate out of. This provides a fun platform for them to have a bird’s eye view of the open space, which is warmly lit and decorated simply.
There are plenty of seating options, you will find, with lots of overhead space. There are not many outlets – what is available is used to make sure the generator and airstream are working properly and that the lights can stay on, so come with your laptop charged up if you are looking to write or study. The stools that line the windows are surprisingly comfortable, and the tables are sturdy and easy to socialize or work at.
Both seasonal and everyday menu options are available, pinned up on the airstream so you can peruse as you approach the ordering counter. Hot teas like a Strawberry Vanilla Green Tea and White Hibiscus Peach Green Tea sit alongside chais, matchas, and Italian Cream Soda as “not coffee” options. Order a breakfast sandwich or burrito, or choose from an array of pastries line scones, tarts, and cinnamon rolls. (The lemon poppyseed muffin is incredible, I will admit!)
The baristas are super kind and enjoy answering questions about the beverages. I went ahead and leaned into one of their specialty drinks, an iced Oatmeal Cream Pie Latte. It was absolutely delicious and had the perfect balance of clouds of sweetness and bitter espresso. Other specialty drinks include a Coconut Mocha, Lavender Haze, Brown Sugar Bliss, and Werthers Original.
My friend enjoyed a Lavender Haze, and said it was one of her favorite in the metro at the moment. (She has been fixated on the lavender flavor during this season of life, so I trust her review more than most.)
There is a cute little vendor corner, where local makers have things for sale. Live Forever Fashion has a QR code to pay for your items. It’s very minimal, and set inside this space feels inviting and warm instead of cluttered or “too much.”
