Best Regards Cafe & Bakery | 6759 West 119th Street, Overland Park, KS 66209
Gouda, Havarti, and Caprese Grilled Cheeses
Best Regards Cafe & Bakery has a massive selection of grilled cheese sandwiches, so it was too hard to choose just one to add to my list. Best Regards has an entire menu with different types of grilled cheese: gouda grilled cheese, espinaca grilled cheese, caprese grilled cheese, meatball, ham and cheese, and much more. I’m out of breath from reading that list and drooling onto my computer. Absolutely everything is made from scratch at Best Regards Bakery, so the bread is fresh and the ingredients are delightful.
As you may be able to guess, I have more of a “cheese tooth” than a sweet tooth, but you MUST have their sugar cookies! They’re an absolute delight. I’m craving one right now!
Varsity Donuts Truck | 704 N Manhattan Ave, Manhattan, KS 66502
Mac n Cheese Grilled Cheese
Rip it apart, add bacon and enjoy. When in Manhattan, Kansas, grab some late night eats from the Varsity Donuts Food Truck! Typically parked in a sparkling, string-light adorned alley, the Truck serves goodies like donuts and corn dogs. My favorite menu option is their signature melty Mac n Cheese Grilled Cheese. It’s grilled like a panini and loaded with cheese. Next you have a choice... what do you do, add bacon or not add bacon?!
The Bean Coffee Co | 112 S Main St, Spring Hill, KS 66083
Grown-Up Grilled Cheese
Even though I’ve eaten many since, The Bean Coffee Co’s grilled cheese remains one of the best I’ve ever had. The sandwich is built with all-natural ham, bacon, Swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, cream cheese, jalapeño jam, and served on sourdough bread. They call it the “Grown-Up” Grilled Cheese because of the extra kick! This jam truly makes the sandwich a must-try.
Winstead’s | 101 Cleaver II Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64112
Grilled Cheese
A Kansas City staple + a sandwich staple = Winstead’s Grilled Cheese. The perfect, simple sandwich, for kids and adults alike. I can never choose between a steakburger or grilled cheese at Winstead’s, so obviously I get both. Sticking with that trend, the 50/50 is where it’s at, with half onion rings and half fries. There’s just something about sitting in an old school diner, sipping on a chocolate malt and listening to oldies.
EJ’s Urban Eatery | 1414 W 9th St, Kansas City, MO 64101
Brisket Grilled Cheese
For our meat-lovers out there, I have chosen EJ’s Brisket Grilled Cheese. Smoked brisket, aged cheddar and Swiss cheese on Texas Toast. They have numerous cheesy options on their menu, like the brisket grilled cheese and baked mac and cheese! I was pleasantly surprised to see some awesome vegetarian options, too– like the roasted sweet potatoes and heirloom tomato salad. All are welcome at EJ’s. So, so good.
Rockhill Grille | 2000 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108
Gourmet Grilled Cheese
The Rockhill Grille adds an elegant twist to classic American staples. Indulge in their cheese-stuffed tater tots as you chat with friends over cocktails. When you’re ready for a main course, check out the Gourmet Grilled Cheese. This grilled cheese is the eccentric, rich aunt of your classic cheese and bread. The Gourmet Grilled Cheese is made with three cheeses: cheddar, havarti, caramelized onion cream cheese, tomato and avocado on cracked wheat bread. The avocado and tomato add freshness and lightness for a unique twist. Each sandie is paired with tomato bisque, of course!
For more cheesy goodness, be sure to check out the queso tour of Southwest Boulevard, and of course, the KC cheeseboard guide. Happy cheesin’!
