It’s 3:15am and my daughter is crying. She’s five months old and she has no idea how good she has it. The Chiefs went 12-4, we have the best quarterback in the league, the fastest set of wide receivers in the game, and we are freaking Super Bowl Champions! Grandpa was 6 when this last happened - I have never seen it in my lifetime. She doesn’t seem to understand - she just keeps crying. Kids these days just don’t get it! Back in my day....

being a Chiefs fan meant enduring heartbreak...

It was suffering through three missed field goals in a crushing playoff loss;

It was sitting back and witnessing John Elway and Peyton Manning engineer last-second drives to crush the Kingdom’s dreams over and over again;

In fact, there was actually a time that Peyton guy beat us in a playoff game where the Colts didn’t punt one. single. time.;

We’ve had some good seasons, don’t get me wrong, but even after a 9-0 start, and after winning a playoff game 38-10 at the half, the Chiefs have still managed to blow it. Crushing;

We endured Marty Ball. Starting Elvis Grbac over Rich Gannon in yet another heartbreaking playoff loss. Gannon went on to join the Raiders and took them to a Super Bowl. Thank God they didn’t win. It might have been too much to bear;

Want to know something even crazier? We had a season where the Chiefs didn’t throw a single passing touchdown to a wide receiver. Those were dark times. Almost as dark as the three consecutive seasons with four wins or less;

We may be Super Bowl champs now, little miss, but there were 25 long years between Chiefs home playoff victories. I know - hard to imagine right now;

Being a Chiefs fan meant watching every game with grandpa, and hearing him swear time and time again he would never believe in ”the Griefs” again. Don’t worry, he was still watching every Sunday - he didn’t really mean it...

That’s why this Super Bowl is so amazing. It may seem silly that your dad was crying because of a game, but this team means so much to this city. We’ve been there in the lowest of lows. We’ve bought into the hype before they broke our hearts. But the city always believed - the Kingdom always showed up.

And now we’ve made it to the mountaintop - I can’t wait to share this crazy fandom with you. It’s going to be a wild ride.

Welp. She’s sound asleep. Typical youths - just no respect for their elders...
