Creative Culture: A Refreshing Date Night OUT
Creative Culture’s got a modern spin on a concept that seems to be sitting stagnant:
date night.
When quarantine began, my love and I found ourselves getting creative with date nights in. Virtual happy hours and wine pairings, date boxes, Netflix flings, afternoon hammock hanging in Loose Park. Writing about it all has me pretty proud of our creativity. However, fast forward to one year later, and things are getting kinda stale. We needed something new and refreshing.
I have been eyeing the new Creative Culture in Westport ( 207 Westport Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64111 & Prairiefire, Overland Park) for quite a while. While there are many painting and craft studios out there, I really love Creative Culture’s modern spin on a concept that seems to be sitting stagnant. So, I approached my guy, and gently asked if he’d be up for a paint night. I mean, the paintings actually look like something I’d be okay with hanging up, and the location meant we could nosh on a patio nearby before our session started. You know it’s love when he’s willing to paint with you!
We walked the busy sidewalks of Westport and grabbed a patio table for some dinner, browsed fun merch at Bunker, then headed to the studio for our painting class. The quaint patio tables and open garage door windows welcomed the sunset, and the shiplap with black accents had me half expecting Chip and Joanna Gaines to meet us at the door. I have to tell you, I was a little uneasy at the idea of doing something out of my comfort zone.
The paint class took place in a private room at the back of the studio with safely distanced tables, popcorn popping for our snack, and couples sitting with their wine bottles and plastic cups. The instructor walked us through the painting as we did our best to follow the style. Quite honestly, it wasn’t as much about the end product, as it was about the process - mixing paints, laughing at silly jokes, challenging ourselves, and just enjoying each other’s company.
About halfway through our class we were able to order the milkshake that came with our ticket purchase. These are not just any milkshakes. Each one is served in a plastic mason jar and overflows with a ridiculous amount of sweet treats to complement the shake. We ordered the “It’s Lit,” which was served with a cinnamon roll, Hershey’s chocolate, roasted marshmallows, and a graham cracker. Sinful, and worth it!
What I love about Creative Culture is that it goes above & beyond the paint and sip experience. There are ceramics to glaze, a plant bar, and craft kits of items you’d be proud to display at home. The space alone is Instagram worthy too! While a date night with my guy was fun, it has me wanting to head back with my kids for a fun date day. It’s perfect for girls day out, mother-son date night, kids’ parties, and I can imagine it would take some pressure off of that awkward first date feeling too.
Now that the weather is warming up and days are longer, get out there and get creative with the people you love. And guys, if you plan it, I bet you’ll score some real brownie points with your lady!
