Neighborhood Guide: Fairway (& Friends)

Explore this charming cluster of neighborhoods!

Fairway, Westwood Hills, and Mission Woods are a cluster of charming neighborhoods just west of State line near Shawnee Mission Parkway. This area is a must-visit destination for some of the metro’s most beloved small businesses. We’ve combined some of our favorite local businesses from these areas into one guide. We hope you love them as much as we do!

Annedore’s Fine Chocolates | 5000 State Line Road, Westwood Hills

The sweet scent of European-style truffles, caramels, toffees, and brittles will lure you into this quaint chocolatier. Prepare to be tempted by handmaid delicacies as you browse the wide array of choices. If you can’t decide, go for my favorite - the dark chocolate covered toffee. It never disappoints.

Front Range Coffeehouse & Provisions | 2718 W. 53rd Street, Fairway

Savoring a hot drink while feeling like I’m in the mountains? Sign me up. Front Range is a cozy cabin to snag a caffeine hit, a cocktail, or a snack. With board games and an outdoor seating area, there’s no rush to head back into the real world. Take your time here with some of the friendliest baristas I’ve ever met.

Hi Hat Coffee | 5012 State Line Road, Westwood Hills

Perched on the edge of Westwood Hills sits the cutest little coffee shop that ever was. It’s standing room only inside, but locals love to walk for coffee on a nice day to enjoy the outdoor seating. The Bee High (a latte with honey and cinnamon) is a tasty treat to take with you as you explore the other shops in the area.

JSH Home Essentials | 1901 W. 50th Street, Westwood Hills

JSH Home Essentials has a feeling of refined comfort that makes you want to linger a while. Hand-drawn fabric prints and wrapping paper are just the beginning of offerings at this neighborhood shop and design business. Snag a Pickwick Candle Co. scented candle in Peony or Lilac to bring Spring indoors this year.

Rainy Day Books | 2706 W 53rd Street, Fairway

I love popping into Rainy Day Books, but I’m not the only one. Our local bookstore was recently noted as one of 5 indie bookstores to visit by The Today Show’s Read with Jenna book club! The national recognition is well earned. Rainy Day Books has been connecting readers with books and authors since 1975.

The Little Flower Shop and The Little Shop Next Door | 5006 State Line Road, Westwood Hills

I learned about The Little Flower Shop when I was the lucky recipient of the most gorgeous bouquet of flowers I had ever received. I gasped when I saw them. Since this fateful introduction, I’ve consistently visited this spot for perfect bouquets and gifts to spread cheer to others. You’ll always find a fun, niche item you never knew you needed.

Inspired by the iconic 1960s building it resides in, The Restaurant at 1900 oozes modernist cool with its design and welcomes diners with an elegant yet comfortable space. Executive Chef Linda Duerr adds warmth with a rotating menu inspired by her New England roots with French and Italian influences. The Flying Cow Gelato | 5000 State Line Road, Westwood Hills

Taste testing from The Flying Cow’s colorful gelato case is scientifically proven to make people happier. Don’t fact check that - just take my word for it. It’s no surprise that that dark chocolate is a favorite since this is the sister store to Annedore’s Fine Chocolates next door. However, don’t sleep on the sorbets. The lemon basil and grapefruit prosecco are as refreshing as it gets on a hot summer day.
