Neighborhood Guide: Parkville
This riverside town is a darling spot for locals and tourists alike
River views, walkable sidewalks, quaint homes and old brick buildings housing plenty of local shops– Parkville is the perfect place to spend your summer weekend. Check out a few highlights worth visiting!
The Fabric Chic
Growing up north of the river, my family frequented a stamp store in the Parkville area. Now, crafters can check out The Fabric Chic on the south end of old Parkville, set apart a bit from the main drag. Their storefront is really quirky, and they have endless bolts of fabrics of all sorts, with interesting and luxurious patterns and textures. You could spend hours in this store, and we encourage it.
Rochester Brewing Co.
If you walk just down the way, you can find a unique dining - and caffeinating, and drinking - experience in a caboose. While Rochester Brewing Co. has two spacious locations in the Kansas City metro, their location in Parkville is partially in an old train caboose. There are two seating areas on either side of the ordering counter, where you can enjoy caffeinated beverages and pastries, beer, cocktails, and incredible food items like breakfast burritos, a fantastic grilled cheese, and other fun options.
This spot is open from 6:30am until 9pm Monday through Thursday, 6:30am until 10pm on Friday and Saturday, and 8am until 6pm on Sunday. The team is really fun to chat with, and you will absolutely find community here.
Popculture Gourmet Popcorn & Ice Cream
Popculture Gourmet Popcorn & Ice Cream is situated on the main drag in Parkville, at the corner of Main St. and W 2nd St. With two locations in the Kansas City metro, they sell delicious popcorn in fun flavors like birthday cake, Dr. Pepper with cherry vanilla, and even dill pickle. Their ice cream selection is no different, as they scoop a variety of Belfonte options between 11:30am and 7pm Tuesday through Thursday, and until 8pm on Friday and Saturday.
Feel free to order wholesale for gifting or for your next special event. If you are looking for a local spot as a fundraising partner, they have two easy programs to choose from to meet your goals quickly!
Parkville Jewelers
Since 1998, Parkville Jewelers has had a cute spot at the center of the Main Street drag, a great location for foot traffic. Their jewelry is beautiful and unique, positioning them as one of the top jewelers in the area. Don’t just spend time staring at their watches and other offerings through the window – head inside to peruse. Their jewelers are friendly, no-pressure community members who seem to take a genuine interest in everyone that steps through their doors.
Who knows? It might just inspire an idea or two.
Café de Amis
A food experience that is tucked away a little further than others has an entrance on Main Street, but feels like a secret hideaway as you climb the steps to access it. A traditional French Bistro, Café de Amis is a little more upscale, with an incredible wine selection and expansive lunch, dinner, and dessert options.
The quiche and crepes are lunch staples, while the St-Jacques - a meal featuring scallops, parmesan risotto, and fresh produce - is a revelation.
Parkville Mini Golf
If you have ever wandered into downtown Parkville, then you’ve most likely already caught a glimpse of Parkville Mini Golf. Centered at the main intersection, it sits above a pedestrian seating area and spans 18 holes with an incredible view of the town.
If you aren’t popping in for date night or with the family, they have group packages for company outings and special events to consider. It’s a fun, quaint space that is ideal for a night out with friends.
Vintage Style KC
You weren’t going to escape a small town in Missouri without finding a cute boutique storefront, and I have two favorites in the Parkville area. Vintage Style KC carries not only clothing items that can help you feel like you’ve stepped back in time, but they also sell pins and other accessories to make your heart soar.
Pop in Thursday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm, or Sunday from 11am to 5pm and keep your eyes peeled for special events and opportunities to shop after hours!
Cheeky Bird
If you didn’t fall in love with this storefront based on its name alone, then stop on by Cheeky Bird at 3rd and Main St. between 10am and 6pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 11am to 7pm Thursdays, 9am to 5pm Saturdays, and noon to 4pm Sundays to catch some heart eyes. A true boutique, this space sells dopamine-boosting accessories and home decor, cutesy dresses, and more.
Parkville Wine House
From 4pm to 9pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, noon to 9pm Thursday through Saturday, and noon to 5pm on Sundays, you can find solace in the Parkville Wine House. Located in what used to be an actual house, this intimate, elevated setting serves up charcuterie, flatbreads, beer, and cocktails alongside every wine you could think of.
If you want to become a part of their community, check out the different levels of their Wine & Beer Club. They also offer delivery for those who prefer to stay home.
Wild Flour Baking Co.
As you emerge from the downtown strip and wander into the neighborhood above, you will find Wild Flour Baking Co. on your right hand side. Top in for coffee cakes, cakes, brownies, an assortment of grab-and-go baked goods, and delicious lattes.
The wraparound deck is a quaint place to read a book and sip your coffee. Take a deeper dive into this spot, featured in our Drinking Coffee in KC series!
