Neighborhood Guide: 47th Street

A stretch of KC full of hidden gems, 47th St is an area you’ll want to explore!

47th Street – from just west of Mission Rd to just east of Rainbow Blvd – is bursting with local flavor and businesses. You can find everything from hand-crafted garments and authentic pizza to vintage golf hats and some of the world’s best barbeque within this vibrant neighborhood. While not every place on this list is on 47th Street, some were too close and too good to pass up.

1889 Pizza Napoletana| 2876 W 47th Avenue

Did you know pizza (as we know it today) was invented in Naples in 1889? If you’re looking for authentic pizza–just how it was back then–look no further than 1889 Pizza Napoletana. All pizzas are cooked to perfection in a wood-fire grill and pair deliciously with a bottle of wine and salad. Live music is often available–check Instagram for updates.

Asiatica | 4824 Rainbow Blvd, Westwood, KS 66205

Vintage Japanese kimonos are carefully disassembled and reinvented as modernized garments at Asiatica. With a meticulous eye and discerning taste, Asiatica’s designs are oozing with heirloom-quality luxury and style. Asiatica holds trunk shows throughout the US, but you can shop in person at their KCK store.

Blair and Blythe | 4812 Rainbow Blvd, Westwood, KS 66205

Make your home feel sophisticated and timeless with Blair and Blythe’s traditional home decor and interior design services. Whether you need a seasonal decor item or a full interior makeover, this shop can make your home feel like you stepped into the pages of a magazine.

Conroy’s Public House | 4730 Rainbow Boulevard

Conroy’s Public house is an Irish pub serving traditional fare in a cozy atmosphere. Enjoy Irish favorites such as a reuben, scotch egg (soft-boiled egg wrapped in pork sausage, breaded and fried), and cottage pie (ground beef and veggies topped with mashed potatoes). Grab a Guinness to wash it all down…sláinte!

Joe’s KC BBQ | 3002 W 47th Avenue

Unless you’re completely new to KC, you’re probably aware of the legendary Joe’s KC BBQ. This location–the original in a gas station–is the best spot to try their famous ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and Z-Man sandwich. Take my advice and try the Chicken Z-Man next time you’re there–the bbq mayo and juicy pulled chicken make it one of my favorite sandwiches in town. No matter what you order, don’t forget the fries!

Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop | 2701 W 47th Avenue

Family recipes passed down over generations have made Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop a favorite. The crab rangoon, rainbow peanut noodles (red bell peppers, scallions, carrots, bean sprouts, cilantro, peanuts, cucumbers, and rice noodles in peanut sauce), and wild mushroom curry (red curry, portabella, straw, button, and shiitake mushrooms with vegetables and jasmine rice) are all favorites.  With happy hour from 2:00-6:00 every day, this stop is a no-brainer on your way home from work.

Mulligan’s Country Club | 4759 Rainbow Boulevard

Reduce. Reuse. Reswing…that’s the motto at Mulligan’s Country Club, a haven for vintage golf goods. Straw hats, polos, sweaters, visors, and more await at this Westwood shop that’s just outside of Fairway (same as my typical golf shot).  Shop online or putt into the recently-expanded clubhouse to live out your Caddyshack dreams.

Sannin | 2820 W 47th Avenue

Enjoy the flavors of Asia at Sannin with fresh, colorful poke bowls, Ramen, sushi, and more. This neighborhood spot has become a fan favorite for pork gyoza dumplings, miso soup, and spam musubi.

Taqueria El Resbalon | 756 County Line Road

Great food at great prices keeps people coming back to Taqueria El Resbalon, a food truck just west of Mission Rd. Tacos, tortas, quesadillas, and more are cooked to order to satisfy every craving.

The House | 2707 W 47th Street

You’ll feel right at home at The House, a cozy, casual bar tucked into an actual house. Vinyl spins while friendly bartenders mix up cocktails and mocktails for neighbors. If you get hungry while you’re chilling, the bartenders are happy to take your order from Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop, which happens to be right next door.

Ulah | 4707 Rainbow Boulevard

Impeccably-curated men’s and women’s clothing and interior goods are just the tip of the iceberg at Ulah, a boutique designed to support and inspire its customers and community. Personal styling will have you feeling your best no matter the occasion. Stop in to elevate your wardrobe and attitude.

Velvet Creme Popcorn Co | 4710 Belinder Avenue

Name a better snack than the perfect bowl of popcorn–it’s impossible. Velvet Creme has been popping up customer favorites like buttered, caramel, cheese, and kettle corn since 1937. Nationally known, we’re lucky to have the only retail store right here in the KC area. The cheese & caramel 2-way combination is hard to beat–salty and sweet is always the move.

Vintner | 4711 Rainbow Boulevard

Tucked into the Westwood Shops, Vintner is a quiet escape for anyone looking to unwind. Sustainable wines line the menu, and if you love one, it’s likely that they can send you home with a bottle from the cellar. Wine flights are the perfect way to find your favorite.
