Neighborhood Guide: Corinth
Annie Austen takes us through the darling Corinth Square- from shopping to pizza to ice cold coffee, you’ll find something to love in every corner of this KC gem.
Located in the heart of Prairie Village, Corinth Square prides itself on being a place where everyone comes together. Shopping at Corinth is as practical as it is fun, with dining, shopping, banking, and self-care services available! I love the fact that I can pop into Hen House for dinner supplies, swing by the Made in KC store for a new Chief’s tee, and then snag a smoothie from Hattie’s to enjoy on my way home. The area is very walkable and gorgeously maintained - I’m always in awe of the flowers they have all around the square! Read on to learn more about some of my favorite spots and visit the Corinth Square directory for a full list of businesses - there are more than 30!
Hattie’s Coffee | 4195 Somerset Dr
The best way to start any shopping adventure? With some locally brewed coffee! Hattie’s Coffee has been a Prairie Village mainstay for the past 20 years, and has an extensive menu offering coffee, espresso, short drinks, frappes, tea, fresh juice, smoothies, and food too! They roast their beans in small batches as needed, which means that you’ll always get the freshest possible coffee in your cup (we’re talking roasted-in-the-past-week fresh)!
The day I was shopping at Corinth Square it was HOT out, so I decided to pop by Hattie’s Coffee and find an energizing treat that would keep me cool during my adventures. David, one of the owners, recommended I try the caramel frappe and it ended up being an excellent choice. Not too sweet, not too coffee heavy, and very, very cold. It might just be my Corinth Square shopping day drink of choice now! Hattie’s has lots of cozy indoor seating and a large outdoor patio area as well, so you have options no matter what the weather is like!
Made in KC | 8231 Corinth Mall
How could I start anywhere other than the Made in KC store? This is the PERFECT place to take an out-of-towner looking for a little piece of KC to take home. From BBQ sauce to beard oil, books to beer jerky (seriously), there’s a little something for everyone. Plus, all the products and brands in the store are, as the name implies, local to Kansas City! Whether I’m looking for a gift for a friend or myself, I can always find something I love when I pop by.
Oh, and if you’re looking for Chief’s tees this season, they absolutely have you covered. I stopped by the store right at the beginning of the season and fans had wiped their stock out. But, not to worry, they were filling the shelves again as I perused the other goodies.
One of my favorite things to check out while at Made in KC are all the awesome stickers located at the checkout counter! They’re always adding to their collection (which means I’m always adding to my collection) and are a perfect way to show off your KC pride!
Tyler Kingston Mercantile | 8221 Corinth Mall
Located just a couple doors down from the Made in KC store is Tyler Kingston Mercantile. A modern general store, Tyler Kingston has it all - apparel for men and women, home goods, jewelry, furniture, gifts, and even cheeky journals (one was called “Psychiatric Evaluations of My Dog” which I thought was absolutely hilarious). They actually just opened up in Corinth Square, but seem to be fitting right in!
The apparel they have in stock is a great mix of local tees, vintage pieces, and boutique-type items. I fell in love with a cream colored pom pom sweater that’s perfect for fall and a gorgeous little black dress I plan on wearing for my next date night with the hubs. They also have a couple collaboration tees (available in tan and gray) and a gray cropped sweatshirt with one of my favorite local artists, ColorbloKC! The design is called “Summer’s End” and it’s just lovely.
The home section also had me absolutely swooning. The way all the pieces are put together and curated not only creates a wonderful shopping experience, it also provides amazing inspiration for your own home! There are so many lovely kitchen and dining pieces, vintage rugs, pennants and wall hangings, plus those cheeky journals I mentioned earlier. A few of the journal titles I particularly loved included “Meme Critiques,” “Pieced Together Recollections of Drunken Escapades,” and “Dope Rhymes.”
In Clover | 4018 W 83rd St
Fun fact: “in clover” means “in ease and luxury” and In Clover boutique certainly provides that experience! When you walk into the store you’re instantly greeted by the friendly staff and lovely scents of Capri Blue candles (aka some of the most wonderful smelling candles around).
In Clover is a destination for stylish clothes, accessories and gifts. They also carry carry trendy jewelry, clothing, shoes, and bag! Monogramming is available for some products, which I thought was such a nice touch, especially for gifts.
Dottie’s | 4046 W 83rd St
Dottie’s boutique brings southern chic style to Corinth Square and believes that pampering has no boundaries. This boutique is truly unique in their offerings, particularly in the boot department. The entire back wall is lined with cowgirl boots! Colorful, ornate, simple, and traditional- there are boot styles for every kind of cowgirl around.
Dottie’s also offers free personal styling services so that you can curate a look that is uniquely you. Whether you’re a Southern Belle or a city slicker, Dottie’s is a unique boutique experience for all!
Land of Paws | 4021 Somerset Dr
Anyone who knows me knows I love animals, particularly my own fluffy children. When I heard that Land of Paws was a top destination for pet-lovers in Kansas City, I knew I had to pop by! Started and owned by veterinarians, Land of Paws carries everything a pet could need - healthy pet food options, stimulating toys, food bowls, adorable clothing and bandanas, beds, leashes, harnesses, collars, and lots and lots of treats! The fresh-baked treat area might have been my favorite part of the store - everything was so perfect and colorful and, honestly, looked good enough for a human to eat! They also had an adorable section specifically for pet birthday party supplies. That’s MY kind of store!
Land of Paws also has both self-service and full-service grooming options available as well. Such a great one-stop-shop! I ended up snagging some tiny tennis balls for my 60 lb pups (they just love the tiny tennis balls better) and a super resilient cat toy for my cats (feathers don’t hold up in this household). They were VERY excited to see me, and their new goodies, when I got home!
SPIN! Pizza | 8224 Mission Rd
Perks of going to SPIN! Pizza: 1) You’ll get amazing food every time, 2) If you say you went to Spin! no one has to know whether you’re talking about the pizza place or a cycling class. With perks like those, who wouldn’t want to go? SPIN! Pizza is a Kansas City born and raised brand that has since expanded into other cities and states in the midwest. Known for their delicious signature pizzas, SPIN! Pizza offers a fantastic variety of toppings and flavors. They created their menu alongside Michael Smith, a James Beard award-winning chef and you can absolutely tell - everything is delicious!
When I stopped by for lunch, I decided to go with the Mini Mia, their combo option that includes a 7” Signature Pizza or Create Your Own Pizza served with soup or salad. I kept things basic and went with my favorite - a Margherita pizza! I also tried the Sonoma Salad, a yummy combination of red leaf lettuce, spinach, grapes, raisins, apples, goat cheese, chopped glazed pecans, with a housemade blood orange vinaigrette. It was such a good combination! P.S. You can also join the SPIN! Club to earn points, get free things, and gain access to special offers. And, again, if you say you’re in a SPIN! Club no one has to know whether it’s pizza or exercise. Talk about a win-win situation!
I hope you take some time to explore Corinth Square and all the amazing things it has to offer! I know you won’t be disappointed.
